3 Year Old Rosellas Program

The Rosellas group includes children who are 3 and those turning 4. It has two sessions per week which run back to back, to provide opportunities for children to become more deeply engaged.

The welcome for our new children and families is very important. The significance of these relationships, for children to feel valued, respected and cared for, allows many positive and worthwhile experiences to occur. Of equal importance is the collaborative partnership with parents, this enables trust to grow and dialogue to begin. This information sharing strongly enhances children’s learning.

We see all children as competent curious and capable social beings that are able to develop responsibility for their own learning. As the year proceeds we listen to the children, to their conversations, their theories and their ideas. We observe their creations, their discoveries, their moments of joy and we give them time to reflect, revisit and refine their skills. The environment then provokes thinking, questioning and fosters exploration. It builds on their strengths and competencies, with appropriate and challenging learning experiences. It is very carefully planned, but flexible and open to many ways of use.

Teaching the Rosellas group at Davis Street is an absolute joy, we have a wonderful team of staff, a very supportive Committee and lovely families. Together we have created a beautiful environment for our children to flourish.

There are 20 places in our 3YO Rosellas group.

4 Year Old Sessional Program

We aim for the children not only to experience the joy of friendship but also to appreciate diversity in the context of group learning. The opportunity to develop these relationships comes through play encounters and is deepened by the involvement of the adults with the children in their play and in group projects. These projects are centred on the children’s enquiries, fostering curiosity and involvement in learning. The children are encouraged to contribute their ideas, listen to and respect those of others, influencing the direction, possibilities and challenges often encountered in projects. There develops a sense of shared responsibility and ownership in the group work, a growing sense of achievement and sense of belonging to a community.

We are a group of enthusiastic educators, passionate about early childhood education and the wellbeing of children.

4 Year Old Pre-Prep Program

Our 4YO Pre Prep program caters to families wanting a longer program and is also designed for children who could attend school, however have either been funded to attend a second year of preschool or have attended three year old kinder and are turning 5 years of age in the first few months of the year.  There are 27 places in our 4YO Pre-Prep program.

With one group of children attending all five days, a strong community is established quickly which enables children and adults to engage in deep and meaningful education. Children are encouraged to see peers and adults as resources for their learning and to celebrate their successes with each other.

Our program is play-based which is driven by the children’s individual and communal interests, often resulting in a large project or several small projects running simultaneously which combines child directed exploration and investigation balanced with intentional teaching. The competent teaching team is led by Justine and Jane who teach and plan together one day a week to ensure a cohesive and consistent program where all children can thrive.

Our philosophy and practise is guided by the belief that all children are strong, capable and competent learners who learn best in a social context where they work and negotiate in a group environment which values all contributions and enhances the development of respect for others’ rights. During our year together we strive to ensure children leave our program with a love of learning and a belief that they can do anything.
